Youth Touring Production
Students learn skills in mental health advocacy, early childhood development, and performance techniques for very young audiences as they rehearse with Speaking Out Teaching Artists and perform 30-minute interactive puppet shows in local preschools.
Old MacDonald Had A Farm
And on his farm he had some animals that had traits of anxiety, ADHD, and autism.
Developed in consultation with early childhood mental health professionals, these show walk audiences through mental wellness strategies and honestly and sensitively show strengths and challenges in a neurodiversity affirming way.
There are currently three productions to choose from:
Residency Components
What does a touring production involve?
A team of two Speaking Out Teaching Artists will work with a cast of 6 - 18 of your students. Students can be selected by school staff, or the Teaching Artists can hold auditions.
The cast will learn a 30-minute interactive puppet show intended for very young audiences.
We will need a rehearsal space at the school. A rehearsal schedule of approximately 15 hours, typically over a three week period, can happen during the school day or after school and on weekends.
The cast do approximately 6 - 10 performances in nearby preschool and kindergarten classes, libraries, and community events.
Fluff, the Duckling Who Wouldn’t Swim
A story about anxiety
Fluff the Duckling has a lot of intense worries and fears about going in the pond. Mama Duck patiently helps Fluff understand that the scary jumping fish and pond weed are actually something to be excited about.
Curly, the Autistic Sheep
A story about autism
The flock’s BAAA-ing really hurts Curly’s ears. When she runs away, Old MacDonald introduces her to an autistic Rooster and autistic Donkey who show her it’s OK to advocate for what you need.
Sparky, the Dog Who Loved to MOVE!
A story about ADHD
Sparky is really excited for the first day of Sheepherding School. When the typical ways of learning and herding don’t work for him, Coach Alice and Sparky collaborate to find new ways of herding play to his strengths.
