Create a Puppet Video
Speaking Out Teaching Artists collaborate with students to develop a story and script, make puppets, film scenes, record music and premiere a video.
A Unique Project
Probably the easiest way to understand this unique and creative residency is to watch the results of a previous one.
Robots Stealing Books was a puppet video created in collaboration with Lyndale Elementary in Minneapolis. A group of 3rd - 5th grade students created the puppets, gave input on the script, voiced the characters, and sang the theme song. The video also features the voice talents of school staff and teachers!
The video was shared in classrooms, on class website pages for families, and a screening for the community at the Lyndale Book Fest.

Project Content and Group Size
We work with schools and classrooms to create original stories that bring to life curriculum and/or messages that are important to their learning community.
At Lyndale Elementary, the focus was on showing positive representations of Muslim characters and giving students who were part of the Speech program an opportunity to shine.
At another school, we created a video showing the learning of 3rd Graders who participated in our Reconsidering Minnesota History residency.
The participating group could be:
15-20 students who sign up for the project
A classroom
A grade
Or other group, depending on the topic of the video
